Press Release (immediate release) (June 18, 2006)
A victory in Super Pro was a great father's day gift for Marco Laframboise
St-Pie (June 18, 2006) - - On a beautiful, sunny day, there were more than 110 racers looking for a victory at Sanair, including 40 in Super Pro. What a great way to celebrate father's day for Marco Laframboise of St-Eustache who defeated Tim Cavanaugh ( Ontario ) in the finals. Marco ran 8.53 sec. against Tim Cavanaugh who was disqualified by running under his chosen elapse time of 9.92 sec. As the result of a draw before the eliminations, Marco was also the recipient of a doubled purse. Marco who won a race during the Early Birds Championship, added a second win to his season. With this victory, Marco is now sharing the second place in the championship with François Angers at 47 points. They are only 2 points behind the leader Alain Cauchon who lost in the quarter finals to the eventual winner.
Tim Cavanaugh defeated François Angers who was instantly disqualified with a red light. This is out of the ordinary for François who usually is consistant with his reaction times. So far, he has two perfect lights in eliminations.
- The popular Sportsman Class -
On this Sunday, it was against a total of 38 racers that Jocelyn Lachance (Beauce) took the honours with his nice Camaro. This was Jocelyn's first time racing at Sanair where he defeated Philip Panaratis of Montreal and pocketed a doubled purse.
- Léon Lavoie of Ste-Marie de Beauce wins in the Street class and the Compact class was won by Samuel Coté of Granby -
Léon Lavoie defeated Ted Matthews of St-Hubert in the finals. It was Léo's first time racing at an NDRA championship race. Ted Matthews who accumulated 25 points at this race is now leading the NDRA Championship's points fund with 47 points. Léon noted that he prefered racing at Sanair and that he would join other racers in the quest for the championship.
In the Compact class , the victory went to Samuel Coté of Granby who defeated his rival Marc-André Piché Nadeau of St-Crysostome. With this victory, Samuel Coté is now leading the championship's points fund for this class.
- Doubled purses at the NDRA Championship -
As explained in a previous press release, for all the classes there is a good possibility that the winner's purse could be doubled at every NDRA Championship's race. This option is only offered at Sanair's NDRA Championship and is well appreciated by the racers.
This Sunday saw the Super Pro and Compact's purses doubled for father's day
- Fans to guess Super Pro's winner -
Effectively, this is new and unique to Sanair, where a free contest is being distributed to the fans in order to generate interest and interaction. Just before the quarter finals, the track officials distribute a chart to those interested. Then, the announcer provides the names and positions of the remaining Super Pro racers to be included in the chart. Fans have to guess, starting from the quarter finals to the finals, who will be the winner of the day. Once completed, the charts are returned to an official before the quarter finals take place. Two free entry coupons to an NDRA championship race will be given to those who have made the correct choices. Of course, this innovations' main goal is to increase fans' interest and interaction until the end of the day. Last Sunday, Sylvain Laframboise of Montréal was our first winner.
- Sanair's Triple Crown Championship -
The first race of the ever popular championship - Triple Crown - will be taking place this weekend. A total of $70,000 will be distributed to racers, including $10,000 for the winner of each race. The championship hosts only one class (7 :00 à 12 :99 sec.) offering an excellent show. Should the weather be cooperative, we are expecting more than 150 racers. This gives a chance to the spectators to witness some of the best bracket racers battleting for the victory. Come and watch race cars going down the ¼ mile at more than 160 mph.
Please note that the entry fee at the Triple Crown is $15 and free of charge for those aged 15 and under. This is a good way to spend some non-expensive family time while enjoying a beautiful sunny day. Everyone also has access to the pit where you can see your favorite car up close. The gates open at 8 :00am and qualifications start at 9 :00am. Don't forget to include this race in your agenda (June 25). More details will follow this week in a press release. It will also include the names of the Triple Crown's past winners. You can access the next press release through Sanair's Web Site at www.sanairracing.com .
