Steve Jones wins Sanair's Triple Crown #1

St-Pie, (Sunday, June 25, 2006) -- During St-Jean Baptiste weekend, Sanair presented its first installment of the Triple Crown program. Steve Jones of Ontario was able to make his way to the top through a tough field of 112 racers. In the finals, he defeated the American Mark Goyette who was disqualified with a .495 red light. Steve Jones, who had been a runner-up in 2004, was happy to finally win for the first time at Sanair.

The Sanair's Triple Crown gave us the opportunity to see racers out for the first time this season, such as Josée Mongeon who is a well known female driver on the Quebec drag racing circuit. Josée was unfortunately eliminated in a previous round. At the end of the day, the organizers were very happy with the day and its overall outcome.

For two weekends in a row, the sun's presence made many people happy. Including the fans who had the pleasure to witness many race cars and outstanding racing. Between rounds, many of the spectators were seen visiting the pit area and taking pictures of their favorite race cars.

$10,000 purse to the winner

At the end of the day, the Triple Crown winner receives a purse of $10,000 making this the most popular event at Sanair. The racers also appreciate the fact that the purses are distributed to the last 32 cars (1/16 final), including a purse of $4,000 for second place.

- The consolation race was won by Bob Carolli --

The Triple Crown is unusual in offering a second chance with a consolation race to the racers eliminated in first and second round. This second chance is well appreciated from the racers. This time, 48 racers took part in the consolation race, but it was Bob Carolli of St-Augustin who won the purse of $600 over Frédéric Angers of Laval . In the sport of thousands of seconds, Carolli had the advantage right off the line with a reaction time of .501 over Angers ' .527. In drag racing, it is known that the reaction time is the main attribute between victory and defeat.

A 10 year-old boy at the wheel of a Junior Funny Car

The young Kevin Illuiri of Mascouche demonstrated his good driving abilities in a Junior Funny Car - the only one in Quebec . They also mentioned that this wasn't Kevin's first experince at race tracks. In fact, he has been racing a motocross since the age of 6 in the Enduro Cross class of the FMSQ.
