Press Release (immediate release)
NDRA Championship – An unbelievable start for Alain Cauchon of Québec, Qc who won in two classes
St-Pie (June 4, 2006) - - Despite the weather uncertainties, the championship took place as planned with a victory for Alain Cauchon of Québec defeating Frédéric Angers of Laval in Super Pro. No less than 30 racers showed up to take part in this exciting class. André Massé who has been the Race Promoter for the last 15 years at Sanair noted that there would of been more entries if the weather had been more cooperative. It is important to mention that the NDRA Championship's Points Fund is based on the 8 best out of 10 races attended. This will allow racers to make up for an absence at a later date.
In the morning's qualifications, Mike Gulla had the quickest elapse time of 7:17 sec. at 191 MPH. Also, it is important to note that both Alain Cauchon and Luc Angers made perfect runs.
Super Pro : with everything in place for an excellent final, Frédéric Angers was instantly disqualified by leaving 0.001 sec. too early giving away the win to his opponent Alain Cauchon. With Alain's two perfect runs and a doubled purse, it was a very profitable day for the winner. As for Frédéric, who will be a strong contender for the championship, he was obviously disappointed with the turn of events.
Sportsman: Alain Cauchon showed why he is considered to be an excellent driver by also winning this class with a Bombardier Rotax engine in a dragster. He defeated Luc Coté of Acton Vale in the finals. Denis Nadeau of Drummondville finished in the third position. Alain who races in two classes with two different cars will be major competition for many racers at the track.
Street : Marc-André Piché Nadeau of St-Crysostome defeated Dany Poulin of St-Hubert in the finals. This was Piché Nadeau's second victory on Sunday and his purse was also doubled in this class. He noted that in spite of the cloudy sky, it was a sunny day for him. Jacques Martin of Acton Vale finished in third position.
Compact , (4 cylinders only class) Marc-André Piché Nadeau defeated Samuel Coté of Granby who had defeated Jonathan Collard in the semi finals. Samuel Coté who is one of the favorites in this class will be able to try again next week.
- NDRA Champiosnhip, doubled purses -
At every NDRA championship race, a draw takes place just before the first round to determine if the purse will be doubled or not for first place. Based on what racers are saying, the doubled purses are well appreciated, especially when 3 out of 4 classes have seen their purses doubled last Sunday. This means that Alain Cauchon who won in Super Pro and Sportsman left the track $3,200 richer.
- Contest to « guess who the winners will be »-
Effectively, this is new and unique to Sanair, where a contest is distributed to the fans. Starting just before the quarter finals, the fans have to fill a chart with their choice of drivers in the Super Pro class. The announcer provides the fans with the names and positions of racers to be included in the chart. Then, the fans return their chart hoping to have made the right choices. A free entry coupon to an NDRA championship race will be distributed to all who have made the correct choices. Of course, this innovation has for goal to increase the fans interest and interaction until the end of the day. This Sunday, Sylvain Laframboise of Montréal won a free entry pass.
- Corvette Classique Club -
As announced last week, the Corvette Classique Club was present on Sunday. Michel Bouchard (president) commented that there would of been many more cars should the weather have been more cooperative. Nonetheless, those present appreciated the day which saw Michel Bouchard defeat Alain Massicotte in the finals. It was Alain Massicotte who recorded the lowest e.t. of the day with 13.82 sec. The President of the Corvette Classique Club noted that they enjoyed the track's hospitality and appreciated how welcomed they were at Sanair.
