Press Release (immediate release)
NDRA Championship's 2nd race this Sunday.
St-Pie (June 8, 2006) - - The NDRA Championship continues this Sunday with its 2 nd race of the season. Even with the weather uncertainties, more than 100 racers took part in last week's race. Several well known racers such as Mario Martel and Richard Arnold, to only name a few, didn't take a chance to travel due to the weather. For those who missed the race, they will have the chance to make it up this weekend. As explained in the last Communiqué of results, only the best 8 out of 10 races will be used to determined our champions in the NDRA Championship. The NDRA Championship presents 4 classes, including Super Pro which provides a spectacular show with race cars going down the ¼ mile in 7 seconds. Last week's final saw Alain Cauchon defeat the favorite Frédéric Angers. If it wasn't for a .499 red light, Frédéric would of won the race. For Alain Cauchon this would be his second win of the day as he also races in Sportsman with another race car. The Street and Compact classes were also won by one racer. Marc-André Piché Nadeau of St-Crysostome won both classes last Sunday.
- NDRA Championship, doubled purses -
To the drivers delight, a draw takes place just before the first round of eliminations to determine if first place's purse will be doubled or not. A numbered ball is drawn by the first driver to get to the staging lanes. The doubled purses are well appreciated by the winners, especially when 3 out of 4 classes have seen their purses doubled last Sunday.
- Fans contest « Guess who the winner will be »-
Effectively, this is new and unique to Sanair, where a free contest is being distributed to the fans in order to generate interest and interaction. Just before the quarter finals, the track officials distribute a chart to those interested. Then, the announcer provides the names and positions of the remaining Super Pro racers to be included in the chart. Fans have to guess, starting from the quarter finals to the finals, who will be the winner of the day. Once completed, the charts are returned to an official before the quarter finals take place. Two free entry coupons to an NDRA championship race will be given to those who have made the correct choices. Of course, this innovation has for main goal to increase fans' interest and interaction until the end of the day. Last Sunday, Sylvain Laframboise of Montréal was our first winner.
Just like last week where Corvette owners were present, this Sunday it is the owners of Mazda Protégé that will compete against one another. We are expecting a good show from this group who will be benefiting from the only safe way to race. All groups interested in meeting and racing at Sanair are always welcomed.
This Friday – Street Drags starting at 7 :00pm. A $5 entry fee and free of charge for those aged 5 and under. Should you be interested in racing, it will cost an additional $5 for the registration.
This Sunday – 2nd race of the NDRA Championship. Entry fee is $10 or free of charge for those aged 15 and under. At the entry gate, all fans will be receiving a pamphlet clearly describing drag racing's basics.
